Chook's luck runs out
A chicken called Lucky, which helped its owner pick out winning lottery numbers, has been eaten by a fox. Lucky was rescued by Billy Gibbons who found it close to death while he was out walking in 2003, reports The Daily Post. A week later, while recuperating at Mr Gibbon's home in Cheshire, UK, it tapped five numbers into a calculator and netted its owner £1300 ($3170). But Lucky's number finally came up when Mr Gibbons forgot to lock its coop and it was snatched by a fox. Mr Gibbons, 48, said: "I am upset if any of my chickens get killed by a fox. That was obviously a special chicken. I rescued it from certain death. I think it knew that and it followed me everywhere." Mr Gibbons is now trying to train his remaining hens to peck out winning numbers.

Saw Felix this weekend. Had heaps of fun reading books, playing in the water and at KidZone. Felix got to go into the "big kids" area with Dad and we discovered a whole new area upstairs (or should that be uptunnel). If Felix wants to go somewhere and needs Dad to get there he comes over and grabs me by the shirt or leg and drags me along - very cute! We also did some disco dancing to show up those country folk... Picasa 2 did the collage for me and I think its the simplest and best album software around.

Best-Kept Secrets -- Quantum cryptography is here!
Excerpt: What kept the key from prying eavesdroppers was Heisenberg's uncertainty principle--a foundation of quantum physics that dictates that the measurement of one property in a quantum state will perturb another. In a quantum cryptographic system, any interloper tapping into the stream of photons will alter them in a way that is detectable to the sender and the receiver. In principle, the technique provides the makings of an unbreakable cryptographic key. LeapFrog hopes 'pentop computer' will fly | CNET News.com
Man this seemed a bit ho-hum until I read this: "For instance, the company said, someone can draw a calculator, touch the handwritten digits and functions to perform an operation, and then hear the answers announced." The funny thing is that I think I can see some moss on it... A boulder some 25 feet high blocks both lanes of the Topanga Caynon Road, Monday, Jan. 10, 2005, as electrical contractors fix broken power and communication lines in Malibu, Calif. No injures where reported, but the road remains closed. The storm system was blamed for at least nine deaths during the weekend in Southern California, including a man killed when his vehicle plunged into the surf off Pacific Coast Highway in Malibu, and a homeless man killed when the hillside where his tent was pitched gave way. Saw Felix this weekend. I am training him to become a Jedi Master. We were playing swords when all of a sudden Felix got bored with that, put down the "sword", picked up my car keys, said "ta ta" and tried to start up the boot of a commodore parked near us. He'll be driving himself to pre-school I guess. :)
