Eels With Strings

They had a string section and the stage was very intimate. It didnt look like a band setup at all. In fact it looked a bit like ehat an "entertaining room" might have looked like in the 1800's; a couple of old (and I mean old) pianos, double bass, a saw, a drum set that was completly concealed and looked like occasional furniture, oh, and a big, pink, dildo. Yup. Dildo. One of the girls in the string section used it to vibrate on the mic to give a wierd but awesome sound! Mr E came out sporting a lovelly suit (pictured), a cigar and a cane that matched the atmosphere perfectly.
Mr E is an incredibly intelligent, tragic and funny person. At one point some half drunk woman let out a resounding "woooo" as he was chatting to the crowd. She was quickly cut of with "Uh...scuse me...*talking*". She returned a higher pitched garble to which he replied "Sorry, I dont understand Cat Talk... Where the hell are we anyway? *CatBurgh*?" ROFL. He had us in stitches a few times during the night.
"The Chet" on drums (and saw) was awesome... the sound he got out of those puppies was aaamaaazing. The Bass player was the standard "I am sooo much cooler than regular people" type of bass player but he did rock.
The girls string section were dressed for the opera (for a while - see below) and were very, very cute indeed and worked wonders with their contribution to the night.
The Eels are known for their encore shenanigans and we werent to be dissapointed this show. I lost count at 5 encores, each one rocked more than the next. Most people had left by the last encore (fools!) when we were treated to a lights-on intimate semi-concert with the Eels in their pyjamas! Brilliant night! :)
